Job Purpose

Diffusion Cloud is the SAAS version of the innovative Diffusion data platform. The Diffusion Cloud development team is growing rapidly and there is a wealth of new feature development on the road map.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in Java. They will have significant experience of SAAS architectures, using cloud computing platforms including Amazon Web Services to compose systems using both RESTful and event-based APIs. They will have a dev-ops mindset, seeking to automate service provisioning and management wherever possible. If you have the skills and knowledge, we will provide a mixture of self-driven and on-the-job training to provide you with the tools you need to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Diffusion Cloud team lead, collaborate with other team members to design and develop new Diffusion Cloud features
  • Implement enhancements and fix defects in Diffusion Cloud and Diffusion products
  • Co-develop automated unit and integration tests with all deliverables to ensure appropriate quality levels
  • Participate in peer code reviews, both as an author and a reviewer
  • Work with the performance engineering team to ensure solutions meet performance targets
  • Track industry trends, follow best practices, and exploit innovations. Seek to delight customers with a great product experience
  • Identify systematic service issues and implement pragmatic solutions to address them
  • Work with the support team, technical account managers, and engineering manager to diagnose and respond to service support issues in a timely fashion
  • Work with the technical writer to improve the product documentation
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Actively respond to questions in the Diffusion on-line forums
  • (Optionally, and with appropriate compensation) be part of the out-of-hours support rota
  • The above list is not exhaustive. You will be expected to perform duties as necessitated by your changing role and the overall business objectives of the Company, as directed

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Educated to Degree level - A good degree in computer science or equivalent commercial experience is essential

Essential Requirements

  • Expertise with cloud-based development and deployment in Java
  • Expertise in object-oriented development, debugging, test creation and fault diagnosis is a pre-requisite for this role
  • Exposure to distributed architectures and development experience covering especially concurrency, scalability, and messaging are also highly desirable
  • The successful candidate will be required to participate in modern development approaches including agile development, continuous integration, and peer review

  • Amazon Web Services (including EC2, DynamoDB, Route53); exposure to Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, OpenStack, …
  • Agile development; Continuous Integration
  • Shell scripting and automation. Ansible, Chef, Puppet

Nice to Haves

In addition to the above it would be advantageous for candidates to have some knowledge of a combination of the following:

  • TypeScript / JavaScript
  • Familiarity with other languages including C#/.NET, C, and Objective C is a strong plus
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • Elasticsearch; Logstash; Kibana
  • Prometheus; Grafana

Operating Systems

  • Linux, and experience deploying server components on Linux

Soft Skills

  • The successful candidate will be occasionally expected to interact directly with customers and suppliers
