Job profile – Typist

Typists are responsible for producing typed documents required by companies and businesses, which may include reports, meeting notes, studies and letter. Typists will work with colleagues to transcribe written notes, which could be handwritten or in shorthand. Often, a Typist will be asked to transcribe audio, such as a recorded interview or a read-out of a TV or radio interview.

Requirements for being a successful Typist

To succeed as a Typist, you will need to type accurately and quickly, and have outstanding computing skills. Shorthand skills are often required, but at minimum are hugely beneficial. Successful candidates will have extreme attention to detail, be able to work well under time pressure, and hold a high degree of discretion as some notes you are asked to transcribe may be confidential in nature.
