Job profile – Administrative Assistant

Admin Assistants are primarily responsible for general administrative and clerical support. Jobs include, filing documents, photocopying, typing up and printing documents for a variety of staff, managing calendars, performing data entry and scheduling meetings. Other tasks are dependent on the office and company's current needs but can include buying office equipment. You may also need to operate the phone system for the office and answer any client queries. Admin Assistants frequently help higher level employees manage their schedules or complete copying and scanning jobs to help the office run more smoothly.

Requirements for being a successful Administrative Assistant

A strong candidate for an Administrative Assistant must have good organisational and communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong IT and computer capabilities are also desired, as you may be tasked with data management or input. You should be able to multitask and meet tight deadlines, while being available to take on extra work if a big company project is due. You must also have impeccable communication skills and be able to work quickly and accurately. Those with a desire to advance up the company ladder in an administrative role or Human Resources frequently start out as an Administrative Assistant. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently will assist you in this role, as will a positive and professional demeanour.
