This role requires a strong understanding of digital communities such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as blogs and RSS feeds, and their relevant suitability. You also need an understanding of the best ways to use the digital communities and how to expand online presence through the utilisation of the newest social media channels.

A Community Manager will have a proactive and outgoing personality, as they are the face of a company and as manager of both inward and outward communications. They will also be organised in managing a range of channels and tools, highly experienced with the digital market and the online consumer and their needs, also possess writing skills to create good PR and blog content. An interest in their relevant industry and product is also a requirement, as a Community Manager acts as a point of the first contact and therefore needs to be both aware of the current market trends and developments and passionate about their product's potential.
