Job profile – Office Manager

Office Managers have the vital task of ensuring that the office runs smoothly and is maintained to a high standard. In this role you will be tasked with managing personnel, databases of information and often will be responsible for many HR tasks. Office Managers work closely with Office Administrators, and will benefit from prior experience in an office and sales environment, managing systems and coordinating tasks among personnel. Many Office Managers have a background as a Secretary or Administrative Assistant, where they developed their management and organisational skills. A background with accounting or bookkeeping will also be an asset for a job as an Office Manager.

Requirements for being a successful Office Manager

Exceptional candidates will have a wide ranging skill set, including solid problem solving skills and good decision making abilities. Attention to detail is important, as Office Managers may need to focus on specific outcomes, such as output, sales, turnover etc. Some tasks of an office manager may include account keeping, management of employee schedules, website and database management and recruitment of new talent. Because the Office Manager at times must wear many hats, flexibility and assertiveness are valuable qualities. To succeed as an Office Manager you must be extremely organised and be able to prioritise large workloads effectively. You also need to have excellent communication skills due to dealing with a variety of different staff members and external clients. You need to have great computer skills, be able to work accurately and have brilliant teamwork skills. The skills required for this role are transferable, and tasks required varies largely from company to company. However, a high degree of flexibility and confidence will assist you in any workplace environment.
